I (Ian P.E.) coerced Leigh Ring to move back to my homeland of Cleveland, Ohio in the summer of 2007. We came from San Francisco and had to deal with every person we ran into asking us why the hell we moved here. And for future reference if anyone sees us around town – ITS FREAKING CHEAP HERE! And besides – the music and art scenes are first rate…and authentic, which after 6 years of poser hipsters giving you sideways glances for not wearing skinny jeans and riding a fixed gear bike – was a huge relief.
Anyway…the one thing we noticed upon moving here was the lack of any publication covering local artists and gallery openings going on around town. At first we kind of felt out of the loop, but upon further investigation – realized everyone was out of the loop. So…a big part of this thing is trying to bring all the artists, enthusiasts, and other creative eccentrics together in order to create a bit of community.
We’re not art snobs! We’re artists. I make films, hardcore psychedelic music, and paint. Leigh is a badass graphic designer who freelances under the name Ring Art + Design.
Pink Eye Magazine has been around for a full year now, covering the arts in Northeast Ohio like nobody else. With our unique off-beat stories, gonzo “journalism”, coverage of urban decay/revitalization and featured interviews of talented local visual artists (in a full color, glossy print) – we’ve become a highly collectible publication. The magazine currently releases 5,000 (FREE) issues on a bi-monthly schedule…they go pretty quick, so keep a look-out for us on the shelves of independent businesses throughout the area!
