“People are the most interesting subject matter to me – their gestures, their body-language, their expressions.”

We saw a few of Rebecca’s paintings over at the Pop Shop in Lakewood and loved her wash technique…then caught up with her down in Kent at Standing Rock Cultural Arts during their “Heritage Festival”. Didn’t see any frontiersmen dressed in furs, but we saw some great paintings down at the Raw Umber show (a collective of artists formed by Bernadette Glorioso, who use hand-made, Earth-friendly pigments).

Rebecca’s paintings tend to have a lot of texture modeled beneath a fragile layer of un-retouched surface wash. Sexy, elegant ladies are a common theme in the self-taught artist’s work, which evokes a golden age of the past glowing through a blurry gauze-filter of memory. But, in her words – “My work is constantly evolving as I learn and experiment with new lines, new materials and greater knowledge”.
