OHIO SKY
APOPHIS // 2009, Self-Release

Holy Motha’ Grabbin’ Space Jams! “Apophis”, the new 10” 45rpm by the band Ohio Sky is three songs of all the music you wanted to play in high school. They are certainly not a high school band, however. The record is well produced, and sounds quite impressive sonically. It’s also appropriately titled as “Apophis” …a near-earth meteor. If you are the space jams type, buckle up buddy – the cover art by Patrick Finegan depicts a meteor buzzing a cityscape. The record is full of simple lyrics like – “No way to find my piece of mind, find me inside, leave it all behind.” Guitarist and vocalist, Vincent DiFranco might just want to hit the ol’ library a little more often, but to be frank, it actual works with this type of music. Although DiFranco’s lyrics might leave something left to be desired, his melodies are well placed, and he is undoubtedly a good, passionate singer. I also liked that they included – “Ohio Sky supports analog recording techniques,” awe shucks, me too. Ohio Sky is a band that you would see playing at Peabody’s…but the main stage. Hey Cleveland is still in many ways, a metal town.
